Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the questions families ask us most. Don’t see yours? Call or text (916) 250-8537 or email jennie@blueberrybrookyorkies.com.

What dog breeds does Blueberry Brook Yorkies raise?

Blueberry Brook Yorkies raises purebred AKC Yorkshire Terriers, including traditional, parti-colored, gold and chocolate Yorkies. We also raise Morkies (AKC Yorkie x AKC Korean Maltese), Yorkipoos, Maltipoos and AKC Korean Maltese. Every puppy is born and raised in our home in Roseville, California, where we have been raising healthy, happy companions since 1998.

How much does a Yorkie puppy cost at Blueberry Brook Yorkies?

Our puppies are $3,500 to $5,000. Price depends on things like size, sex, age and pedigree. We also offer optional leash training and crate training for an additional fee. Call or text (916) 250-8537 for the price of a specific puppy.

How do I reserve a puppy, and how much is the deposit?

Fill out our Puppy Reservation Application and talk with us first. A deposit of $500 to $1,000 holds your spot on the reservation list, and it goes toward your puppy’s total price. The deposit is refundable up until you choose your puppy. After that it is not refundable, but it can be transferred to a different puppy or to a later time. The deposit is only due after we’ve talked and both decide to move forward.

How does your waitlist work?

When it’s your turn on the reservation list, you get first pick of every following litter until you find the perfect puppy. We typically have litters every month or every other month. We send clear pictures and videos of each litter and its parents so you can tentatively choose, and you can switch to a puppy from another litter if yours isn’t turning out quite how you pictured. If you reach the top of the list and aren’t ready yet, you can stay at the top and take first pick of a later litter.

Can I visit the puppies before I buy?

Yes, and we encourage it. Families are welcome to visit our home in Roseville, California, to meet the puppies and their parents. Once puppies are five or six weeks old you can come see them; whether you can hold them depends on their age and whether they’ve had their shots. No deposit is required to visit. Call or text (916) 250-8537 to set up a time.

Do you deliver puppies?

We encourage families to come to our home and meet their puppy in person. We understand that some people can’t travel easily, especially seniors, so we also offer delivery on an as-needed basis. Contact us to talk about your situation.

Are your parent dogs health tested?

Yes. All of our parent dogs are screened for genetic issues, and every puppy comes with a one-year health guarantee against major congenital and genetic defects.

Are puppies vet checked and vaccinated before going home?

Yes. Puppies go home vet checked, up to date on their vaccines and deworming/de-parasite treatment, with their health records.

Do your puppies come with AKC papers?

Yes. Our purebred Yorkshire Terrier and Maltese puppies are AKC registered, and AKC papers go home with them. Our Morkies come from an AKC Yorkshire Terrier and an AKC Korean Maltese parent. Ask us for photos of the parents and details about any puppy’s pedigree.

Do your puppies come with a health guarantee?

Yes. Every puppy comes with a one-year health guarantee against major congenital and genetic defects.

At what age do puppies go home?

Our puppies usually start going home at 12 weeks old. We sometimes also have older puppies and young adults available, for example a puppy we kept as a possible future breeder that didn’t end up being the right fit.

Do you ever have older puppies or adult Yorkies?

Sometimes. Occasionally we keep a puppy as a possible breeding prospect and it turns out not to be a good fit, for example because it isn’t big enough, and sometimes we simply end up with older puppies. Ask us what’s available now.

What comes home with my new puppy?

Every puppy goes home with a vet check, up-to-date shots, health records, AKC papers (for our purebred puppies), our one-year health guarantee and a starter kit.

How are your puppies raised and socialized?

Our puppies are raised in our home as part of the family. They are handled every day, spend time with kids, go on car rides, get used to everyday household noises, play in the backyard and sleep in the bed with us.

Are tails docked and dewclaws removed?

Dewclaws are removed for safety. Tails are usually docked unless you request otherwise, and sometimes we keep natural tails. Let us know your preference on the application.

Do you offer puppy training?

Yes. In addition to early socialization at home, we offer optional leash training and crate training services. Ask us about adding training for your puppy.

How do I prevent and treat hypoglycemia in a tiny Yorkie puppy?

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is common in small Yorkie puppies, especially during stress like going to a new home or after missing a meal. Signs include weakness, lethargy, poor appetite, twitching, tremors and seizures. Give sugar by mouth right away, such as NutriCal, FortiCal or corn syrup, keep meals regular, and call us and your vet. Untreated, it can be fatal.

Where are you located, and what areas do you serve?

Blueberry Brook Yorkies is a home breeder in Roseville, California, in the Sacramento area of Northern California. Families visit us from Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, Folsom and Sacramento, and from all over California, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley and Los Angeles.

Do you offer service dog, therapy dog, or rescue puppies?

Yes. We specialize in therapy and service dogs and assist with Yorkie rescue as needed. Call or text 916-250-8537 to talk about what you’re looking for.

How can I avoid puppy scams and know Blueberry Brook Yorkies is real?

Visit the breeder in person, ask for health and vaccination records, and read reviews for specific, personal details. You’re welcome to visit us in Roseville with no deposit, talk with us before paying anything, and reach us directly at (916) 250-8537 or jennie@blueberrybrookyorkies.com.
